The best design newsletters

Good design newsletters do the looking for you. Each week they pick the buildings, identities, objects and ideas worth your attention, and they are made by people who care how the result looks. These are the ones we would start with.

Why read design in a newsletter

Design moves fast and lives in many places at once: studio sites, magazines, social media, trade fairs. A newsletter turns that into something with a beginning and an end. Someone with taste has already chosen, and you get the result at a fixed pace, daily, weekly or monthly, instead of an endless scroll.

Design newsletters are also among the most visual emails you can get. They are full of photography, type and layout, which is exactly what gets lost when they sit between receipts and work email.

Architecture and design news

If you want to know what is being built, launched and talked about, start here.

  • Dezeen Daily arrives every day with architecture, interiors and design news from London-based Dezeen. It suits people who follow the field closely.
  • Dezeen Weekly is the same magazine as a weekly roundup. Choose this one if daily is too much.
  • Design Milk is a daily newsletter from the United States about modern design, architecture and creative homes, with a lighter, more personal tone.

Graphic design and creative work

For identities, illustration, typography and advertising, these three UK newsletters cover the ground between them.

  • It's Nice That picks the best in creative design each week, with a strong eye for illustration, graphic design and new studios.
  • Creative Review covers advertising, graphic design and ideas, and is the one to read if you want to understand the thinking behind a campaign.
  • Creative Boom is a weekly mix of inspiration and insight for creative people, including the practical side of working as a designer.

Design with a wider view

Some of the best design writing sits next to technology, business and culture.

  • Dense Discovery is a weekly, carefully edited mix of design, technology and links worth your time. It is a good choice if you want one design newsletter that is not only about design.
  • Monocle arrives monthly with a global view of design, business and culture, in the same voice as the magazine.

From the design houses themselves

Magazines tell you what is happening. The design houses show you first. Scandinavian brands such as HAY, Muuto, GUBI and Svenskt Tenn use their newsletters for new furniture, lighting and collaborations. Read our guide to the best interior design newsletters for the full list.

How to build a design reading habit

  • Mix paces. One daily, a few weekly and one monthly is easier to keep up with than five dailies.
  • Mix kinds. Pair a news newsletter such as Dezeen with a curated one such as Dense Discovery and one or two brands you admire.
  • Read them as designed. These editions are made to be seen. Stakker shows every one exactly as the sender set it, with links opening inside the app.

All of the newsletters above are in the Stakker catalogue, so you can subscribe to each in a tap from Discover. See the full list of design newsletters.
